An option to send the order confirmation email to the customer is turned ON for the shop by default. To change this setting, please go to: Control Panel > Sales > Edit Order Status Update Settings.

If the 'New (Order Confirmation)' checkbox is checked:

1. The order confirmation email will be sent to both a merchant and a customer once the order has been placed on the site.
2. The order confirmation and order status update emails will not be sent to a merchant or a customer when an existing order with any status other than 'New' has been assigned status 'New'.

If the 'New (Order Confirmation)' checkbox is not checked:

1. The order confirmation email will only be sent to a merchant, not a customer, once a new order has been placed on the site.
2. The order confirmation and order status update emails will not be sent to a merchant or a customer when an existing order with any status other than 'New' has been assigned status 'New'.
